New Orleans- Labor Day Weekend 2014

We decided to go visit New Orleans for our Labor Day weekend vacation.  We actually visited New Orleans last year for Labor Day weekend as well.  After these two visits, I realized that New Orleans only has 3 main things to do: gambling, drinking and delicious food.  But let me tell you that these 3 things are amazing!  They also offer swamp tours which is completely on my bucket list. However, the weather wasn’t really in our favor for this adventure.  So we will try it one of these days.

New Orleans has some crazy alcoholic drinks and some HUGE jello shots.  Which by the way, those jello shots are something serious and delicious.  Also, a very popular drink in N.O is the hand grenade.  But, I am not a huge fan of the hand grenade as I rather the Hurricane.  I always buy the fish bowl at “Fais Deaux Deaux” which is located on Bourbon Street.

Crawfish etouffee omelette with grits at Mother's
We have heard of a restaurant called Mother's a few times, but we never tried it.  So we  finally decided to give it a shot.  Firstly, the line is pretty long so you may want to get there early.  We waited for approximately 30 minutes but, it was well worth it.  I ordered the crawfish etouffee omelette and OMG it was a foodgasm.  It was literally so good that I cannot wait until I eat it again.  It was amazing to have breakfast yet with the New Orleans touch to top it off. I completely recommended.
Another restaurant that I tried (for the 2nd time) was NOLA located in Bourbon St.  I promise you, this restaurant never let's me down. We ordered the jambalaya pasta and blackened red fish with a special white crawfish sauce.  These dishes were exquisite and delicious.  If you ever go to New Orleans, make sure to try this place.

On our last night, we went to a resturant that had a balcony on Bourbon Street.  I must admit, it was pretty cool.  However, the food was pretty basic and nothing special (besides the food presentation). Honestly, I do not even remember the name of the restaurant.  I think I was pretty drunk by then.  But it is located on Bourbon Street and near canal street.  It is a green building on the outside.  I was really looking foward for some good boudin and yummy baked oysters.  The boudin was so little and it had an average taste.  The ones I buy at the store taste better, to be honest.  The baked oysters were not bad, but I've had better.  The oysters had bacon, spinach and cheese.

Overall, it was a great vacation and I had a lot of fun.  Also, I am going back for Mardi Gras 2015 and I cannot wait.  Mardi Gras is on my Bucket List and I am ready to go see craziness.

Note:  The hotel we stayed at was Hilton New Orleans Riverside.  Great location!
