Every year, I try and take a ski trip in December. I love cold weather, I love nature and I love to snowboard. This vacation is usually the trip I look forward to the most. This year I had the opportunity to take my first trip to the state of Utah. Honestly, I always thought Utah wouldn't have anything to do because it sounds like a boring state. Therefore, I decided to stopped judging and actually take a trip there. I ended up in Park City, Utah and it was beautiful and breathtaking. It was a lovely city and a wonderful trip. The pictures of Park City don't do justice, I was truly impressed.
Park City has a few skiing resorts. I actually stayed by the Canyons Resort. But, I only snowboarded in Park City Mountain Resort. The lift tickets I purchased were for both Canyons and Park City Resort. However, Canyons did not have much terrain open and therefore I did not try it. Park City did not have as much snow as they expected and only selected lifts were open. On average, I spent at least 5 hours each day on the slopes. Snowboarding is very tiring if you are not in shape. My legs/thighs were hurting and burning horribly on the first day. The reason is because you are basically on a squat position the entire time. On my second day, I woke up very sore. The third day was a piece of cake and I felt like a pro. I have a year to get my legs ready for next year’s ski trip. One thing I did not like about Park City Mountain Resort was the fact that people were not considerate of others. The slopes were very crowded and it was mainly because a lot of the terrain was close. Park City has a lot of individuals that are training for the Olympics or working their way up there. Therefore, it was truly competitive and somewhat dangerous for people like me. I can get down the slope just fine with a decent speed but I am definitely not a professional. I believe having people going like 70 miles per hour on a green/blue slope is not safe. I was actually knocked down once pretty bad because the person tried jumping on the side of the slope and ended up landing on my path. I understand that a lot of the terrain was close but they can be a little bit more considerate of others safety. Also, 90% of people on the slopes were locals, so they were talented. A few locals told me it is not that bad once more terrain is open. But I guess, I won’t know until next time. Other than that, it was amazing!
Also, I had a chance to go Utah Olympic Park which was very cool. You get to see Olympians practicing their ski jumps and bobsledding. On top of that, there is a museum that tells you everything about the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games. They even had some medals and authentic gear. It was very interesting.
Park City has a small and gorgeous downtown. I tried three different restaurant/bars during my stay. But before I share my meals, let me tell you that I HATE Utah’s liquor law. I am just glad that I took 3 bottles because I would not have survived. They are only allowed to serve you one shot in your beverage. So even if you ask for an additional shot, they won’t do it. Apparently, you are only allowed to have one drink/shot at the time. Long Islands do not exist there as they require too much alcohol, sad day in Tati’s world. Also, you must go to a bar to be able to drink. If you go to a restaurant, they won’t serve you alcohol unless you order food. Once you finish your meal, they are no longer allowed to serve you liquor. This law is truly disappointing. The restaurant/bar that best fit my needs was No Name Saloon. Although the drinks did not satisfy me, the shots sure did. Plus they have amazing buffalo (bison) burgers. They are so yummy! Most importantly, they have wonderful customer service and they attract awesome customers. If you ever go to No Name Saloon, make sure you request Lindsey. She was so kind, helpful and such a sweetheart. She made our visit to No Name Saloon 100 times better. She made us feel so welcome that we went back every day during our stay. I also met wonderful people at No Name Saloon. It was truly a great experience.
I also went to Butcher’s Chop House. Overall, I thought the food and service was good. However, the Bone in Ribeye was under cooked (such a disappointment) and the rice had absolutely no flavor. Since the Ribeye was under cooked, they gave me a complimentary dessert. The nut crusted Halibut was exquisite and the sauce was very tasty. The beef short ribs were delicious as well.
Lastly, for Sunday Night Football I went to Drafts Sports Bar & Grill. The service at the table was decent. However, the service at the bar was phenomenal. Their bison burger was heaven! It had a fried egg, goat cheese and grilled pineapples. It was beyond delicious and it was cooked perfectly. Their wings were superb as well. My only complaint was their bison chili fries. It came out cold and it did not taste good. Therefore, I returned it because I did not even want to eat it.
Below are a few pictures of my trip. If you have not been to Park City, I truly recommend this city. It is beautiful inside and out. Also, people in Park City are extremely kind and nice. Some of the nicest people I've ever met.
Note- I stayed at Sunrise Lodge, A Hilton Grand Vacation. The suite was very large and nice. The employees were very courteous and I loved the location.
