Best Brewery, distilleries and wineries in ATX/Surrounding areas

Believe it or not, Austin has so much to do!  A must do is to visit breweries, distilleries and wineries! They are all around the same area, so you can just have a day trip and hop through them all!  All of the locations I mention below are dog friendly, just make sure to bring your best friend on a leash.

1.) Jester King Brewery- This one is my favorite! While I do not drink beer, their location is just spectacular. They are huge (so much land) and you can literally be there all day!  There are various picnic tables in the sun or the shade and people even host events there such as birthdays or bachelorettes! Jester King offers food, so don't worry about being hungry! They also serve wine for those like me, that aren't into beer. Their Rose is just delicious.

2.) Treaty Oak Distillery-  Treaty Oak is sweet! Firstly, their spirits are quite tasty.  But you can have a tour and then have a tasting, yum! They have a bar area that is covered but without walls, so therefore you won't find A/C in this area.  But, it is set up so nicely with very cool comfy sofas and even TVs! Perfect for Sunday Football. They also have a restaurant that serves great food. For those that want a family fun day, there is a play ground for the kiddos as well.

3.) Solaro Estate Winery- This winery is very pretty and laid back.  If you are wanting something more intimate and/or romantic or even just a quite place for a nice conversation, I would recommend this place. Their environment is just phenomenal, calm and relaxing. Their wine selection is fantastic.  Make sure to book your tour ahead of time!

4.) Deep Eddy Vodka Distillery-  Deep Eddy is must! Because let's be honest, their Vodkas are SO GOOD!  Going to the distillery and doing a tasting and drinking the cocktails is a lovely experience.  While this distillery isn't very big, it is still a great time. There are bean bag toss games to make it an even greater day.  They also have a food truck by the parking lot in case you get hungry.

Those are my top selections.  However, there are plenty more that you can visit.  Remember to not drink and drive :-) Have a blast!

Best Bottomless Mimosas Brunches in Las Vegas

Since Labor Day is around the corner and Las Vegas is a very popular destination during this time, I figured I would share where you can get the best deals for some booze.  I mean who doesn’t like bottomless mimosas?  Here are my top 5 brunches:

1.) Terrance Pointe Café at Wynn- I will say I love this place.  The view is amazing, the food is great and you can get bottomless sparkling wine, Bellini AND mimosas for $22.00 bucks.  What a deal!  The only thing I will say is that some of the servers have a bit of an attitude and sometimes you feel rush.  That would be my only complaint.  But maybe it was just our waiter? I will say: we were outside, it was hot and I will give them the benefit of the doubt. But only this one time!

2.) Hexx Kitchen + Bar at Paris- This restaurant seems pretty modern and the food was great as well. The service here is spectacular and they keep the bottomless mimosas coming.   The bottomless mimosas here are $20.00

3.) Bacchanal Buffet at Caesars Palace- The brunch here is ridiculously good.  It was renovated with $100 million budget and re-opened a few years ago.  This is definitely an upscale buffet and the food will reflect that.  The weekend brunch here is $49.00

4.) Border Grill at Mandalay Bay or Forum Shops at Caesars Palace-  Border Grill has a bit different of a style.  It is like a buffet but not buffet style.  For $34.99 you get unlimited small plates which are basically like tapas.  For an additional $10.00 you get bottomless mimosas.

5.) Overlook Grill at The Cosmopolitan- Overlook Grill is the perfect spot to start if you are headed to Marquee daytime party!  This restaurant offers Bottomless Rose for $24.00 and bottomless bubbles or mimosas for $18.00.  They have a variety of food, from traditional eggs benedict, fish tacos, fried chicken and more!

Now go an enjoy a Boozy Brunch and thank me later :-)

5 ways to continue a healthy lifestyle on a cruise and not gain weight.

Everyone always talks about the extreme gain weight on a cruise.  I’ve heard people say the rule of thumb is usually 1 pound per day.  I have been trying to take care of myself this past month and I was a little nervous to gain weight as I had already lost 8 lbs.  Overall, I ended up gaining 1.5 lbs and only because the last 3 days I gave up and I wanted to eat some Jamaican food, some pasta and some dessert.  Hey 1.5 pounds it’s a lot better than 7 pounds!  Below are my recommendations:

1.)   Gym- The gym is absolutely beautiful!  The gym usually has clear windows that allow you to look at the ocean while you work out.  It is truly relaxing and breathtaking.  Get your day started by a work-out and follow it with the sauna and/or the steam room.  The cruise also offers classes such as yoga, aerobics and boot camp.

2.)    Stairs- No one likes to take the stairs.  However, it is a great way to burn those extra calories!  Especially if you are only going 3 decks down.  Just remember that burning 3 calories is better than burning 0 calories.  They will add up!

3.)    Activities- The cruise ship offers various activities that are fairly active.  For example, you can do rock climbing, surfing, mini golf, volleyball, basketball and even nonstop dancing at the nightclub.  Participate in as many activities as possible.

4.)    Food- Food is of course the hardest part of the trip.  You have to stay focused and committed. Everywhere you look there is food.  Even when you go to the dining room they offer you multiple meals.  We told the server we did not want dessert and he brought us 3 desserts!  They want you to eat as much as possible and it is so tempting.  For example, I would eat egg whites, yogurt and fruit for breakfast.  My lunch would be a salad without dressing, without cheese and with tilapia.  My snack was usually alcohol because who doesn’t want to drink on vacation?  My dinner was usually chicken, salmon, shrimp or lobster with a side of veggies and a carb.  My dessert was sherbet or sugar free ice cream.

5.)    Alcohol-  Alcohol is super high in calories especially if it is frozen or has juices.  Therefore, the best thing to do is drink the alcohol straight with lime/lemon, drink champagne or white wine.

Everyone wants to go on a vacation and eat and drink as they please.  However, if you do not watch yourself on a cruise ship you will find yourself gaining 1 to 2 lbs per day.   You can still enjoy some of the food as long as you stay active.

5 reasons why boarding school is the best!

When I tell people I attended boarding school the first thing that comes out of their mouth is “you must have been a bad and problematic kid.” I am sorry, but if that is your idea of boarding school then you are ignorant and should educate yourself on this matter. Why? Because boarding school is a truly amazing experience, you make friends for life, you mold into the person you want to be, and you focus on education, your future and what is important in life.

1.) Education
Boarding schools focus on the education of the student.  Therefore, classes are small as they want to keep students encourage and active by participating.  This system allows flexibility on the methods of teaching and is able to satisfy students’ needs to the best of their ability.  Boarding school offers after school programs for tutoring as well as study hall hours.  Tutoring is also offered as one-on-one with the teacher for a better understanding.  Teachers truly take pride in teaching and help the students as much as possible.  They are great educators, advisors and friends.  Study hall hours are mandatory and are specifically design for students to do their homework and study.  In fact, boarding school has a lot of kids that want to attend great universities and therefore take full advantage of the education program.  Boarding Schools have strict rules but always have academics as the number one priority.

2.) Sports/Clubs
There are a variety of sports and clubs to choose from.  Sports are mandatory, but clubs are not.  Clubs are usually an after school activity that students wish to join because of their personal interest.  Clubs are ran by students but overseen by an advisor. Example of clubs are Hispanic club, art club, model united nations and more.

The athletic program is a requirement at boarding schools.  Schools usually have three seasons and each season the student must elect a sport.  For example, fall sports are field hockey, volleyball, soccer and tennis.  Basketball is offered on the winter and lacrosse and softball during the spring.  Some schools offer an equestrian team and it is offer all year long.  Therefore, riding could be your sport for all three seasons.

3.) Activities
There are various activities during the weekend to choose from.  Each weekend has different options to try and satisfy all the students.  Some of the weekend activities include movies, mall, day trips to other nearby cities, museums, theaters, ice skating, festivals, amusement parks, community service and more.  They also have school dances/mixers that are hosted by different schools in the same circuit.  During long weekends they even offer a ski trip.  Some boarding school’s even offer end of the year programs that are mandatory to graduate.  For example, the boarding school I attended, Oldfields School, had trips to France, Spain, Costa Rica, etc.  They also had other programs such as cuisine, photography, dance and more.  This program is supposed to be educational and fun.

4.) Home away from home
At first is really hard to adjust because the students are young and is usually their first time away from home.  Some students are very home-sick for a few weeks, some for a few days and some never get home-sick.  However, everyone gets over it with help of teachers and students and accepts the school as their new home.  Once you accept the boarding school as your new home, it will become your home for life.  You meet people that you will always be friends with, you have teachers that will always hold a special place in your heart and you become part of a community.  Boarding schools usually do not have many students and therefore everyone is very close to one another.  They see you go through your ups and downs as well as see you grow physically, mentally and emotionally.  There is always someone there to talk to, someone that will listen and someone that will have a shoulder for you when you need it.  The memories built are memories that you will never forget.  The people you meet will be unforgettable and most likely in your life till the end.  I can guarantee you that you do not have to see them for years, but when you do it will be like nothing has changed.  Those were the most important years of our lives and we have an unbreakable bond.  At the end, we only had each other .

5.) Independence
Everyone that attends boarding school is young, and thus they become independent.  Students gain responsibilities and learn about the challenges and obstacles of life.  Students are responsible for cleaning their room, doing laundry and of course attending classes and doing their homework.  They also learn about finance and money management as they have a budget for their weekend activities.   Students have to take care of themselves and their health and must be proactive to self-care.  While becoming independent, individuals also set short-term and long-term goals for themselves.  Goals are extremely important and it is great to see kids develop goals as teenagers.  Goals display that students want to be in control of their life while making the best decisions they possible can.

Boarding School is an awesome experience!  It teaches you to be who YOU want to be!

5 things on a cruise ship that everyone hates about inconsiderate people!

  1. Deck Chairs
Of course everyone wants to be at the pool!  A lot of passengers want to be at the pool all morning, afternoon and early evening.  However, holding deck chairs for a long period of time it’s just wrong and inconsiderate.  There are people that hold chairs for others and the people do not even show up.  There are also people that leave their stuff and you do not see them for hours.  I don’t have a problem with people that are swimming or that go grab some lunch and come back to eat it there.   The problem is when you are being greedy and selfish.

  2. Obnoxious and careless adults
There are a handful of adults that want to be the center of attention.  They will do anything in their power including ridiculous things just so they are noticed.  Please keep in mind that these include adults that are not under the influence.

  3. Not taking care of your kids
I cannot stress this one enough!  There are so many parents that do not take care of their kids.  So, Kudos to the parents that are not under this category.  Firstly, you have some parents that will let their kids do anything even if it’s not appropriate.  It is the parents’ job to stop it before the crew member steps in.  That is just embarrassing, especially when you are right there.  Secondly, you have parents that are not even present and let their kid(s) roam around by themselves.  I am not talking about teenagers either, I am talking about children.   Please keep an eye on your kids, it truly is appreciated.

  4. Buffet
The buffet goes hand in hand with unsupervised children.  There are so many children that just run to the buffet or ice cream machine without an adult and either make a mess or touch everything.  That is just disgusting!  I would not want to eat food that has been touched and I am not sure where their hands have been.  However, adults do that too or let their kids do it.  Therefore, I think everyone should be more respectful at the buffet and think of others as well.

  5. Disrespecting the crew
The crew is extremely nice, helpful and works extremely hard.  They truly made my experience a wonderful one and I am very appreciative.  Also, the crew calls you by your first name and a lot of them remember your name which truly makes you feel at home.  On top of that, the crew members do not have any days off for 6 or 7 month.  Can you imagine not having any time for yourself except the hours between your shifts?  I would literally have a heart attack.  The crew literally does not have room for a bad day and I admire them for that.  Therefore, seeing passengers being rude towards them and not cordial makes me angry.  Have some manners and at least say please and thank you.    They are humans too and deserve respect because they are the ones that make your vacation a great one!
